Driven By Sustainability
Sustainability is an important part of See Limited's ethos.
We are passionate about taking positive steps to become Net Zero by 2030 as a Group of companies and are playing our part to address the climate crisis.
By working with recognised experts in the subject of sustainability, including our environmental consultants EcoAct, we have confidence and validation in the steps that we are taking to reduce our carbon footprint.
Our Journey to
Net Zero 2030
Sustainability is at the heart of the Group ethos. It is a lynchpin in our daily conversations. We understand that the built environment industry accounts for 25% of the UK’s total carbon footprint and we take responsibility for carbon emissions generated by the Group, searching for ways to continue to reduce our carbon footprint.
Since 2019, we have been working with our environmental consultants, EcoAct. We annually record and measure our carbon footprint across all of our operating businesses. The report ensures that full transparency is shared to all Group shareholders as well as providing a framework to identify areas of improvement, validating internal initiatives to implement in order to drive down our carbon emissions.
Partnering with EcoAct helps to further our understanding, while also giving us reassurance and validation in our sustainability efforts.
In 2016, a new management team led by CEO Robert Thompson revitalised the Group and began driving a green agenda, aimed at improving our carbon footprint and encouraging sustainable practices across the operating businesses with the ambition to be Net Zero by 2030.
As an SME in one of the UK’s biggest industries, we might be considered small, but our plans on making a difference to the environment are big!
Science Based Target initiatives
In September 2021, See Limited signed up to the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), demonstrating our Group’s commitment to adopting best practice to achieve our ambition of becoming Net Zero by 2030.
Our science-based target that has been set and validated by SBTi is to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 42% by 2030 from a 2020 base year and to measure and reduce our scope 3 emissions.
This initiative is in line with the Paris Agreement goals of keeping global temperatures to 1.5 C, identifying a clear, defined pathway for us to reduce GHG emissions, helping prevent the worst impacts of climate change as well as influencing others in the industry to take action.
Managing our Carbon Footprint
Our Group’s annual carbon footprint report produced and verified by EcoAct, has led to the implementation of a range of new initiatives to drive down carbon generated through our day-to-day operations.
As we produce this report annually, we are continuously looking for ways to improve. Here are examples of just some of our live initiatives:
Solar PV - Since June 2022, 316 solar photovoltaic panels have been installed at our operational site in Corby, Northamptonshire.
The panels are working towards reducing our energy consumption by 90,616 kilowatt hours (kWh) per year with an annual saving of 32 tonnes of carbon emissions. We estimate based on current consumption that the total carbon saving over a 20-year period is 600 tonnes.
Electric Vehicles - Since 2021, we have switched all company owned vehicles to electric and have installed fixed charging points on site. As recorded in our latest Annual Carbon Footprint Report produced by EcoAct, the tonnes of CO2e for this emission type have reduced by 85.12%.
